A Little Victorian Child's Play
Art fairs are wonderful. They invite people into a world of excitement, allowing them to circulate between different artists, art forms and experiences. They also provide a temporary space, large enough to get lost in, small enough to host wonderful parties and events.
So we were pleased to see that Art Antiques London was imaginative and giving enough to host the Children in Crisis Party in the Park a couple of weeks ago. Hundreds of young Londoners were invited to learn about art - and the plight of children in Africa - whilst donating large sums to both aspects. London's art collection's grew whilst hundreds of thousands were raised for the education of children in Afghanistan, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
The venue was transformed into a magical Victorian Doll's House, adding a delightful spin to the already unique venue. There were little dancing dolls, and Penny Farthings aplenty. Some may say that this wasn't entirely necessary, with the guestlist including co-chairs Princess Eugenie and Alexandra Buxton, and The Society's very own Astrid Harbord and Antonia Packard, providing more than enough fun and laughter. But it certainly added a little extra magic to the event, with a remarkable £165,000 being raised for the charity.
If this is what play time can be like, bring it on.
